New technology courses to boost employability
Santander, together with Porto Tech Hub and Porto City Council, are launching new courses in information technology (IT) – SWitCH IoT and SWitCH Cyber. The aim is to mark the start of a journey for all those looking to excel professionally in the world of technology and innovation, and to meet the demand in these areas in the Greater Porto area, thus increasing their employability.
The SWitCH courses are promoted by Porto Tech Hub, in partnership with the Instituto Superior de Engenharia do Porto (ISEP), and are classified as postgraduate courses. Santander will help with the funding, contributing 50% of the programs’ tuition fees (total cost of 2,000 euros). As a result, the SWITCH IoT and SWITCH Cyber courses will have 60 more students in the 2024/25 academic year and 120 more students in the 2025/26 academic year.
Inês Rocha de Gouveia, director of Santander Universidades, points out: “The partnership between local authorities, academia and companies to promote talent is the solution for increasing productivity and differentiating our economy. It is a great privilege for Santander to boost and increase the impact of Porto Tech Hub. Professional development initiatives such as this, in areas where demand outstrips supply, are great economic catalysts and transform the lives of those who decide to take these courses. Those who decide to invest in their education will enhance their professional career and have access to a better life. We are helping to make Greater Porto an increasingly renowned technological hub.”
Luís Silva, president of Porto Tech Hub, said: “At Porto Tech Hub we believe that continuous training and retraining are essential to remain competitive in today’s job market. The new SWitCH IoT and SWitCH Cyber courses are a direct response to the growing demand for qualified IT professionals in the Greater Porto region. This partnership with Santander, Porto City Council and ISEP not only enables the development of critical skills, but also strengthens Porto’s position as a technological hub of excellence.”
