Porto Tech Hub to “requalify” professionals in IT
SWitCH courses promoted by Porto Tech Hub, in partnership with Instituto Superior de Engenharia do Porto, will provide a “direct response to growing demand”. Santander pays 50% of the tuition fees.
This Thursday, May 23th, Porto Tech Hub, Santander and Porto City Council are presenting new requalification courses in information technology (IT): SWitCH IoT and SWitCH Cyber. The aim is to increase employability in the region.
Luís Silva, president of Porto Tech Hub, explains that “the new SWitCH IoT and SWitCH Cyber courses are a direct response to the growing demand for qualified IT professionals in the Greater Porto region”. This partnership with Santander, the local authority and the Instituto Superior de Engenharia do Porto (ISEP) enables the development of critical skills and “strengthens Porto’s position as a technological hub of excellence.”
In a statement, Santander emphasizes that the aim “is to mark the beginning of a journey for all those seeking to excel professionally in the world of technology and innovation, and to respond to the existing demand in these areas in the Greater Porto area, thus increasing their employability”.
“The partnership between local authorities, academia and companies to promote talent is the solution for increasing productivity and differentiating our economy. It is a great privilege for Santander to boost and increase the impact of Porto Tech Hub”, says Inês Rocha de Gouveia, director of Santander Universities.
The SWitCH courses are promoted by Porto Tech Hub, in partnership with ISEP, and are classified as postgraduate courses. Santander contributes 50% of the tuition fees for the programs, with a total cost of 2,000 euros. Applications for the scholarships are open from June 17th via the Santander website.
The SWITCH IoT and SWITCH Cyber courses will welcome 60 students in the 2024/2025 academic year and 120 students in the 2025/2026 academic year, according to the initiative’s promoters.
The presentation event will be attended by the executive director of Santander Portugal, Miguel Belo de Carvalho, the councillor of Porto City Council, Ricardo Valente, and the president of Porto Tech Hub, Luís Silva.
